Frequently asked questions

How Can We Help?

No, you are unable to self-drive in private reserves.
All activities are guided by professionally trained and qualified guides who will undertake all of your activities.

The options include:

  • Self-driving to the camp
  • Fly from Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town to either Hoedspruit or Nelspruit Airports and then arrange a road transfer to the camp through our reservations office.
  • There is a daily shuttle service from Pretoria/Johannesburg/OR Tambo that departs approx 6 am and arrives at the Timbavati Gate at approx 1 pm. Return shuttle is also available, and both transfers can be booked through our reservations office.

Expect to see the Big Five over the course of a 2-3 night stay. There are two resident lion prides in the Africa on Foot area. Other animals that are regularly sighted include giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, waterbuck, wildebeest, bushbaby, mongoose, duiker, and steenbok. You might also see wild dogs, cheetahs, honey badgers, porcupines, aardvarks, civets, caracals and servals. Birds that are regularly seen are vultures, owls, bee-eaters, rollers, eagles, bustards, hornbills, starlings and shrikes.

Yes. Twice-daily activities are automatically included in your stay for our Greater Kruger Safaris. These are group activities, and they usually head out at sunrise and in the late afternoon, when wildlife is most active. Our walking safari is undertaken in the morning at 05:30/06:00 for three hours, while our game drive takes place at 16:00.

We accept children from the age of 5 years and over at the camp. The age limit for walking safaris is 16 years.
One parent would be asked to stay with their child and partake on a morning game drive instead of the bush walk. Children between the ages of 5 and 16 years can also enjoy morning “bumbles” around the camp itself.

We have Wi-Fi available in the lounge area and the chalets within range.

We just have showers available in each of the chalets.

The Klaserie region is a low-risk malaria area. It is best to consult your local doctor for advice. Generally, the type of medication needed for the Kruger is Malarone, Doxycycline or Mefloquine. Mosquitos are more prevalent in the wet, warmer season. Mosquito repellent and creams are also great preventative measures.

We’re neither a traditional tour operator nor a simple booking platform. Sun Destinations is a marketing and representation company that acts on behalf of each property as a centralised reservations office. We work closely with travel agents, DMC’s and our direct guests to make booking easy and transparent.

Booking is simple. You can enquire directly through our website, via email at reservations@sundestinations.co.za, or through your preferred travel agent. Our Reservations team will guide you through availability, booking suggestions, itinerary creation, and any special requests to ensure your safari experience is tailored to you.

Absolutely. Many travellers choose to combine different properties within our Collection to experience contrasting landscapes, unique properties and different safari styles. Our Team can recommend ideal lodge pairings, assist with transfers and build seamless journeys across the Greater Kruger, Botswana and beyond.
